Section 01

Scope & Regulatory Framework

TradeEthiopia operates as a multi-tier commercial gateway governing domestic wholesale (B2B), retail distribution, and cross-border Pan-African commerce aligned with Ethiopian commercial law and AfCFTA standards.

Applies to all registered buyers, verified suppliers, manufacturers, exporters, and logistics partners operating across the platform.
Ensures transparent pricing, legal proforma invoices, and verifiable commercial contracts across domestic and international trade tracks.
Complies with the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) foreign exchange regulations, the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI), and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocols.
Section 02

Supplier Verification & Enterprise Standards

Every merchant offering goods on TradeEthiopia undergoes rigorous multi-point verification before trade authorization is granted.

Mandatory verification of commercial registration, valid Tax Identification Number (TIN), and sector-specific export/import licenses.
Physical facility audits and warehouse validations for Gold and Verified Manufacturer tiers.
Zero-tolerance policy for counterfeit goods, unlicensed re-exports, or misrepresented product specifications. Violations trigger immediate account freeze and commercial reporting.
Section 03

Orders, Quotations & Incoterms 2020

All wholesale transactions and cross-border consignments must specify recognized international commercial terms (Incoterms 2020) and enforceable quotation bounds.

Recognized terms: EXW (Ex Works), FOB (Free on Board - Djibouti/Mombasa), CFR (Cost and Freight), and CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight).
Binding proforma quotes: Standard quotation offers remain price-locked for 14 calendar days upon issuance unless explicitly negotiated otherwise.
Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ): Suppliers must honor published MOQs and provide tiered wholesale pricing tables for container and bulk consignments.
Section 04

Payment Governance & Financial Settlement

Transparent financial protocols protect commercial integrity, prevent fraud, and comply with sovereign banking directives.

International Transactions: Facilitated through recognized commercial banking channels including Documentary Letters of Credit (LC), Cash Against Documents (CAD), and authorized Telegraphic Transfers (TT).
Domestic Ethiopian Transactions: Settled through authorized national payment gateways and direct institutional banking partners in Ethiopian Birr (ETB).
Payment Milestone Releases: For structured supply contracts, fund disbursement aligns with verifiable logistics milestones (bill of lading release, port inspection confirmation).
Section 05

Inspection & Quality Assurance

Standardized quality control measures guarantee that delivered commodities conform to verified commercial descriptions and international standards.

Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI): Buyers reserve the right to appoint accredited third-party inspectors (e.g. SGS, Bureau Veritas) prior to container sealing.
Agricultural Products: Mandatory Phytosanitary Certificates and origin traceability certificates issued by accredited certification bodies.
Industrial & Manufactured Goods: Must meet Ethiopian Standards Agency (ESA) or equivalent international ISO conformity documentation.
Section 06

Logistics, Customs & Port Clearance

Clear accountability protocols govern cross-border freight transit, customs documentation, and dry port handling.

Primary Transit Corridors: Djibouti Corridor, Modjo Dry Port, Berbera Corridor, and Addis Ababa Bole International Cargo Terminal.
Documentation Requirements: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading / Air Waybill, Certificate of Origin, and Customs Declaration (Form E).
Carrier Liability: Transit risk transfers precisely per the agreed Incoterms 2020 rule stated in the official purchase order.
Section 07

Commercial Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

A structured 3-stage dispute resolution mechanism provides equitable relief and speedy resolution for trade discrepancies.

Stage 1 - Direct Platform Mediation: Parties submit inspection reports within 7 calendar days of goods arrival for platform-assisted resolution.
Stage 2 - TradeEthiopia Technical Review: A dedicated trade audit panel evaluates shipping logs, laboratory results, and contract clauses to render a binding settlement proposal.
Stage 3 - Institutional Arbitration: Unresolved claims escalate to the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA) Arbitration Center.
Section 08

Prohibited Goods & Fair Trade Conduct

Strict trade compliance prohibits hazardous, unauthorized, or non-compliant commodities across all platform marketplaces.

Strictly prohibited: Unregistered pharmaceuticals, weapons, endangered wildlife derivatives, counterfeit trademarks, and hazardous non-certified chemicals.
Fair Pricing Practices: Anti-dumping and anti-price-gouging surveillance across essential agricultural commodities and industrial supplies.
Sanctions & Anti-Money Laundering (AML): Full adherence to national and international compliance screenings.
